Dust Extraction Fan: What is it?


Industries require unique dust collection fans to maintain a clean working environment and ensure safer working conditions for employees in production, manufacturing, or industrial facilities. Different industrial processes generate various sizes of dust particles; some dissolve while others remain suspended in the air. Typical dust extraction fans filter and draw or remove dirty air through a fan system. Depending on the type of dust produced by industrial processes, different fan equipment is used to perform various dust collection tasks. Centrifugal fans are commonly used to manage high volumes of dust loads due to their ability to handle large quantities.

The required air exchange rate for the environment to be ventilated depends on the usage purpose, the number of people and activities involved. Below is a table showing the required air exchange coefficients for different environments.

Based on these details, the required air flow is determined as follows:
Q [m³/hour] = Air exchange coefficient (per hour) x Room volume (m³)
Or
Q [m³/hour] = Number of people x Air flow per person
When selecting a fan, the appropriate fan curve based on the determined flow-static pressure pair should be chosen.
